Footsteps to Lasting Solutions
Artist: Mary Coss and Susan Balshor
Location: Wellspring Family Services: Rotary Support Center for Families (1900 RainierAve S)
Description: The “Path”, which is made up of more than 200 donor footprints, was designed, fabricated and installed by Southeast Seattle artist, Mary Coss working in collaboration with local artist Susan Balshour. The artists took real-life impressions of three footprint
sizes to create the molds for the footprints, which are made of cement mortar and then sandblasted with donor inscriptions. The footprints are embedded in a river of mosaic pebbles that are complimented by two larger boulders, which act as rain dishes fed by decorative downspouts. PAUSE project, Spring 2009.
In honor of the many donors that made their new building a reality, Family Services hired SEEDArts’ Public Art Program to commission local artists for two donor recognition artworks. The goal of the artwork is to add warmth to the space and welcome visitors, especially children,
into the building. |
